Victorian era taffeta/silk material used in a 63" L x 40"W signed (Homer B Street) youth quilt. Front crossbar/postage stamp-type pattern with backing in one length of like material. Primitive sewing technique with machine stitching around borders. Actual time and construction of quilt unclear.
Condition Fair; staining to light color crossbars where it appeared to be resting in trunk or drawer. There is varying degrees of wear to the silk on approximately 15-20 of the small stamp size squares and to the purple crossbars. The backing has some staining and a midsection 2" tear and there is wear to the quilt borders. Overall however, this delicate quilt is quite lovely as is or for restoration.
